When people meet with me, despite working hard and being successful in other parts of their lives, they are struggling with or even overwhelmed by negative emotions. They may be sad and withdrawn, anxious and worried to distraction, inhibited from reaching their full potential at work, paralyzed by fear, or criticizing themselves into inaction and despair.
Often, my clients are also struggling to connect with others. Friendships are fewer or shallower than they'd like. Romantic relationships deteriorate or seem to turn out the same, unsatisfying way. They say things like, "I feel empty," "I don't have any direction in life," "other people don't know the real me," and "I don't understand why I feel/act/think this way, it doesn't make sense."
